Graceful Perseverance: Lord Have Your Way in Me - 01/12/25

Welcome to this week’s Sunday morning blog. This week I felt compelled to describe what it means to me to ask the Lord to have His way in me. But I should include all of you in this experience as well so it's more relatable for you! So, what does it mean to ask the Lord to have His way in each of us, His children?

What does it mean to totally surrender to the Lord? What does this look like? Historically, for many generations, we were raised and taught that whether we have outstretched arms or down on our knees, we are to surrender our lives as we know it today. Surrendering everything means just that, everything. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. - Matthew 16:25 (ESV)

This includes our failures, our weaknesses, our shortcomings, the storms and even our hopes and dreams, our triumphs, and our successes all to Him. Are you willing to surrender all of you to Him daily? All of your selfish dreams and desires in exchange for God's perfect plan for your life?

Again, why do we need to surrender to Him? Because we are inheriting sinners dating back to the first book of the Bible; Genesis, in the beginning with Adam and Eve. Our plans do not help us to repent and turn from our iniquities and understand His truth. Many continue to refuse to hear God's voice or obey His commands. It is wise to acknowledge our self-centered plans do not at all help the Kingdom of God. God's ultimate plan for our life is an eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven with Him. He desires us to strive to be more in His image, more holy, more righteous, and less as a blind sinner. This is the beginning of biblical wisdom. That whoever loses (surrenders) his life for Christ, will find a new life through Christ, and will not perish, but have an everlasting life in Heaven.

Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. - Luke 9:23 (NKJV)

When we surrender to the Lord, we should be prayerful in asking not the least of what we think He can do in our lives, but realizing His way, the only way, will create a mighty storm in our soul. Consider and answer me, O Lord my God; light up my eyes, lest I sleep the sleep of death, lest my enemy say, "I have prevailed over him," lest my foes rejoice because I am shaken. But I have trusted in your steadfast love; my heart shall rejoice in your salvation. I will sing to the Lord, because he has dealt bountifully with me. - Psalm 13:3-6 (ESV)

Know this, God is a BIG God! Bigger than our troubles, bigger than our failures will ever be. As God's mercy and grace unfold, He will drench our soul. The Lord hears our cry. If we are truly desperate for Him, we will hunger and thirst more for Him. If we petition for Him to speak to us, He will because He is right there beside us, always. I have found in my life, when I want to know God more, when I want to grow deeper in my faith and go to the next level of my faith journey, I ask for more by surrendering everything I think I have to Him. It is then that God will have His way in me.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. - Proverbs 3:5-6 (ESV)

And when you are prayerful and proclaim, "I surrender to my Lord, Jesus Christ and Savior," He will show up like a mighty storm or a rushing wind in your life. Jesus will breathe within you and the Holy Spirit will come alive in you. The "Helper-the Holy Spirit" will take up residency within you. Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 (ESV)

This holy experience can only be experienced when we have truly surrendered to the one who created us and saved us through the blood of the cross. God, who is the one who has already ordained our life from the very beginning of time. How do I know this to be true? First, because the Bible tells me so. God's promises are His Word from the very beginning to the very end of time. Secondly, because I can look back on my life and I can testify by showing you endless examples of when He has rescued me from old self or from my enemies, those who have an ill will for me.

The power in surrendering my life to the Lord, has allowed Him to show me not only endless grace and mercy, but also undeniable miracles. The Old Testament and the New Testament are not the only the historical time of mankind filled with examples of God's endless miracles. He continues today in this generation to demonstrate His sovereign ways, His miracles, His amazing grace, and His supreme plans for His children who love Him. God shows us everyday who is really in control. Since the beginning of time (Genesis), God has promised we will have an "eternal life" in Heaven with Him and not perish. Therefore, death (perish) is the opposite of having an "eternal life" in Heaven. If you are a child of God, you will not perish but you have the promise of an everlasting life in Heaven with our Savior. "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life." - John 3:16 (ESV)

Blessings until next week my brothers and sisters in Christ,
